This commentary discussed the need for sport ecology research to consider contexts and theoretical perspectives outside of those heavily focused upon thus far. Specifically, it examines the amount of research on elite, professional organizations and suggests further research is needed to cover sport sustainability at the youth and community levels/ Most sport take place at this lower level and thus it has a large environmental impact (with different resources for addressing that environmental impact) that is different from what may be observed at the elite, professional level. Also challenges the use of "sustainability" as too generic and "sport" as too narrowly focused thus far.
